Woman's 2-year-old son was in car at time of robbery
Alamogordo, NM (KTSM) — A couple in Alamogordo is behind bars after they allegedly robbed an elderly couple at gunpoint inside of their Alamogordo home on Wednesday, January 22.
Alamogordo Police Detectives responded to an Armed Robbery in the 1800 block Crescent in Alamogordo. During the course of the investigation, police learned that a 78-year-old woman and 79-year old man were robbed at gunpoint inside their home.
The elderly couple described their attacker as a tall, slender black man. They also reported that the man concealed his face with a surgical mask during the attack, wearing a dark grey hoodie, dark grey beanie cap and tennis shoes. The couple said he fled their home on foot and got into an older model white 4-door vehicle.
Alamogordo PD subsequently learned that the suspect had stolen several of the couple's credit cards and was using them to make purchases in Alamogordo and Ruidoso, NM.
On Thursday, Jan 23, APD learned that the suspect returned to the local JC Penney store to return some of the items purchased with the victims' stolen credit card the day before. APD responded to the department store immediately and took 45-year-old Rodney County and 27-year-old Sondra Corrales into custody without incident.
Officers and Detectives executed a search warrant at Corrales and County's residence located in the 1100 block of Mescalero, and on a white 1983 Chrysler driven by the suspects. APD were able to locate stolen property belonging to the victims and items from JC Penney which was purchased with one of the victim's credit cards.
APD also alleges that Corrales' 2-year-old son was inside the car during the time of the armed robbery at the elderly couple's home. Alamogordo Police have confirmed that the child was transferred to the custody of Child Protective Services following Corrales' arrest.
Rodney County was arrested and charged with Armed Robbery, Aggravated Burglary, Child Abuse, Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Fraudulent Use of a Credit Card (4-counts). Sondra Corrales was arrested and charged with Fraudulent use of a credit card (4-counts), Fraudulent use of a credit card- conspiracy (3-counts), Possession of a Stolen Credit card.
County and Corrales are being held in the Otero County Detention Center in lieu of bond.
