EAST EL PASO — Del Sol Medical Center hosted a helicopter safety training session on Wednesday for local Emergency Medical Services personnel.
Students learned how to set up a landing zone and they practiced emergency medicine on mannequins inside the helicopters. Del Sol Medical Center, Fort Bliss medics, and the Border Patrol Search, Trauma, and Rescue Team conducted the training.
Bert Corbell, Administrative Director for Trauma at Del Sol said this type of training helps crews prepare for any type of emergency situation. "Not every patient is in the hospital. Some are at the scene, at a car accident, at their home in a remote area, or someone is out working on a ranch and has a trauma occur. We need to know how to safely set up a landing zone for the helicopter," said Corbell.
Del Sol Medical Center conducts this type of training periodically for EMS personnel and volunteers. Those interested in attending a class can call Corbell at 595-9000 or 629-3434.
