(NBC) — NBC News has learned that Russian officials are searching for as many as four female suicide bombers who plan to carry out attacks, according to Russian sources, during the Olympic Games.
And that one of these women may have already entered the Sochi area two weeks ago and is hiding out, waiting for an opportunity to carry out an attack.
Monday, police in Sochi were distributing photographs of that woman, wanted posters to hotels in the area, to the train station and at the airport, telling people and officials to be on alert and to notify them if they recognize her.
This woman is a so-called "black widow."
Her husband, another suspected Islamic extremist, was killed by Russian security forces in the Republic of Dagestan six or seven months ago.
Dagestan is emerging as one of the most violent places in the country. It is in the north Caucasus.
They say these will be a safe games, but U.S. officials are increasingly complaining that they are not getting complete cooperation from the Russian side.
