El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Pasoan Omar Quintanilla agreed to terms with the New York Mets on a minor league contract Saturday that will send him back to Triple-A Las Vegas 51's to start the 2014 season. The Mets non-tindered Quintanilla earlier this offseason.
Omar had 359 plate appearances with New York last season after replacing Ruben Tejada midseason at shortstop.
The eight-year veteran batted .222 with two home runs and a .589 OPS.
The Socorro HS grad could play in his hometown when the 51's play a four-game series in El Paso versus the Chihuahuas starting May 15th.
