Austin, Texas (KTSM) — Texas raked in more money off sales tax collections than expected in December. State sales tax revenue was up nearly four percent this December compared to 2012.
The December collections are based on sales in November, which include the sharp discounts offered by retailers on Black Friday.
Last month the state took in $2.5 billion compared to $2.17 billion in December of 2012. The state's sales tax generates 62 percent of its tax revenues.
