Santa Fe, NM (KTSM) — New Mexico Governor Susanna Martinez has released her proposed budget for the new year.
The $6 billion plan includes a three percent increase in new spending. More than half of that new spending would go to education. Starting pay for new teachers would be raised from $30,000 to $33,000, and high performing teachers would receive monetary stipends. Those two items would cost more than $18 million.
The budget also includes more spending to grow New Mexico's health care workforce
