EL PASO, Texas (KTSM) — University Medical Center is hiring an outside source to review its policies after being sued by a New Mexico woman who claims she was sexually assaulted at the hospital.
As NewsChannel 9 has reported, the woman -- known as Jane Doe -- claims she was stopped by Customs and Border Protection officers at the border and searched for drugs.
When drugs weren't found, she was taken to the hospital where she was subjected to x-rays, CAT scans, and cavity searches against her will.
"We are taking steps to ensure that our staff consistently acts in the best interest of each patient everyday," the statement read in part.
The hospital says it takes the claims seriously and is reviewing its policies.
That review should be complete within 90 days.
