El Paso, TX — Mike Price spent nearly his entire life in football, taking a graduate assistant coaching position right out of college at Washington State in 1969. 2012 was his final year as a head coach, going 3-9 at UTEP, his 9th season with the school.
Price is now enjoying retirement, working as a radio analyst for the first time with Jon Teicher at the 80th Hyundai Sun Bowl in the matchup between Virginia Tech and UCLA on Tuesday, December 31.
Price said his love for football has not stopped despite a retirement from coaching. "Completely different than I thought... I have been fine with it. I watch more football, other schools, than I ever have, I tape all the games, sit down and probably drive my wife nuts, I watch 15-18 games a week, go to games every weekend. We have been to a college football game either here or Washington or at Tulane to see my sons coach, so it's been busy but I have had fun, I think my shelf like was spent, so I'm ready and it was the perfect timing for me."
Price still lives in El Paso, and plans a few vacations here or there, but loves his time in the Sun City.
