TEMPE, Ariz. (KTSM) — A Franklin High School alum is expected to stand trial this year for the murder of his girlfriend in Tempe, Ariz.
Luis Soltero, 22, was arrested last May for the murder of his girlfriend, Arizona State Univ. student Rebecca Kasper, 19.
She was found dead April 23, handcuffed inside a bathtub in Soltero's apartment and beaten with a dumbbell, according to Phoenix NBC affiliate KPNX.
NewsChannel 9 confirmed Soltero graduated from Franklin High in 2009.
Days after her death, Tempe police say Soltero walked into the station after having unsuccessfully tried to commit suicide from carbon monoxide poisoning.
After being arrested, KPNX reported reported he asked an officer if they still take last meal orders on death row because he would like to order something from Texas.
He pleaded not guilty on murder, kidnapping and sexual assault charges back in May.
The next hearing for his case will be Jan. 15th, when a trial date is expected to be announced.
