El Paso, TX (KTSM) — 8,000 El Pasoans, Californians, and Virginians packed the convention center to show off their school spirit at the Fan Fiesta. UCLA and Virginia Tech fans got their chance to sound off on who they think will win the 80th annual Hyundai Sunbowl.
T.J. Brown and his Grandfather, Bob Libier of Santa Teresa attend every Sunbowl.
While T.J. always roots for the golden state teams. "I've always been a fan of mostly all California teams,” T.J. Brown said.
His grandfather chose Virginia tech this year. "They have a coach Frank Beemer and I really like him, so that's why I'm for them," Bob Libier said. Which creates a friendly, family rivalry, "We're even key about it. He yells at me sometimes and I yell at him."
Fans from beyond the Border, also took to the Convention Center today to cheer on their favorite team. "Pins from every game, memories like you wouldn't believe. It is so great to be a Virginia Tech hokie,” Bill Klink who now lives in Phoenix said. Bill Klink is a hokie for life and displays it proudly with his 21-year-old hat. "My family and I have been to 17 of those bowls traveling from Phoenix and we always wear the famous hat "
Some chose to not take a side like Three Dog Night front man Danny Hutton, "I hope both teams do well. I'm not going to say who I'm going to support. No injuries,” Hutton told us.
As for everyone who attended Fan Fiesta, they had their chance to share who they think is the better team. But tomorrow's game will show who comes out on top.
"We really love El Paso. We'll love it even more with a victory tomorrow over UCLA,” Klink exclaimed.
