79-year-old Grandma earns second degree Black Belt in Karate
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — There's one El Paso Grandmother you don't want to mess with. 79-year-old Charlene Villalobos earned her second degree Black Belt on Saturday after working toward the goal for the past six years.
Villalobos says she was inspired to start Karate six years ago when she began taking her 8-year-old granddaughter to karate lessons and decided to take up the sport herself.
"It just looked like so much fun, and I hated going to the gym. So I talked to them and they said 'Yeah, we can train you.' They said you just start slow and build up gradually, so that's what I've been doing for the past six years" Villalobos said.
Villalobos attends Karate classes two to four nights a week and her doctor says it's the best thing she could do to stay healthy. She says she is ready to start working towards her third degree black belt soon.
