LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Las Cruces High School celebrated its second State Football Championship Thursday afternoon with a rally at the school.
Students packed the school's practice field while players autographed the team's tunnel used at every game during the championship season.
"As a senior that's how you want to go out," said Sam Denmark, a linebacker and tight end on the team. "Especially against your in-town rivals is huge for us."
Las Cruces beat Mayfield for the state championship in a close game.
"We were fortunate to win that game and the city should be proud of both teams," said Head Coach Jim Miller.
He said they will enjoy the victory but are already preparing for next season.
