A new contract will be discussed for El Paso's iconic star on the mountain at Tuesday's city council meeting.
The contract will likely mean that control of the star will be the city's for the next 50 years. That would mean that the city will run it through April 30, 2060.
El Paso Electric will continue to run the star for the next year. After that the city will have to find a budget to keep it shining. That cost is estimated at about $25,000 a year.
