El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso heavyweight boxer David "El Niño" Rodriguez did not have the return he expected after a two year absence. Rodriguez was knocked out in the final moments of a 6-round bout against Darnell Wilson in Atlantic City, NJ ending his unblemished record.
Heading into the final round, Rodriguez (36-1, 34 KOs) appeared to be leading the scorecards before the 39-year old Wilson (25-17-3, 21 KOs) caught David with a left hook that sent him to the mat with just 10 seconds left in the final round. It was Rodriguez' first fight since 2011 as he recovered from a knee injury. He was also a victim of a knife attack that left his face scarred.
Wilson had lost 12 of his last 14 coming into the bout. Rodriguez was making his debut under promoter Main Event.
