Tim Floyd will be out of town recruiting this week but the letter he has been waiting for arrived in El Paso Monday afternoon.
Rashanti Harris is coming to UTEP.
He is a 6-8, 238 pound power forward/center. Harris was listed as the 28th best player in the nation by one recruiting service last year and signed with Georgia State but never played a single minute due to academic problems.
Harris still has not qualified academically but one source told NewsChannel 9, "they would not take a chance on signing him if they did not believe he was going to be eligible."
Harris will have four years eligibility with UTEP and joins John Bohannon as the first recruits under Floyd.
NewsChannel 9 reported Bohannon's signing last week. The Texas high school star is a Tony Barbee recruit who honored his committment with UTEP. Bohhanon is 6-10 195 and needs to add weight but has scoring skills and the ability to run the court.
Harris recruitment might have been a "package deal." Former Georgia State assistant coach William Small will join Floyd's staff at UTEP. Small has tremendous recruiting ties in the Southeast and has previously worked at Western Kentucky, Troy, Tulane and Georgia State.
Also joining Floyd's staff is former USC basketball player Keith Wilkinson. He will serve as Director of Basketball Operations.
A press conference is expected early next week.
