Omar Quintanilla is no longer a major league baseball player but his unemployment may not last long.
The New York Mets non-tendered the Socorro graduate on Monday, meaning they did not offer Quintanilla a contract and avoided a large settlement via arbitration. It's very possible the Mets could now negotiate a new contract with Quintanilla at a lower salary.
Quintanilla played for the Mets starting in late May. He batted .222 in .359 plate appearances.
