LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The Las Cruces Convention Center is now operating under new General Manager Rebecca Bolton who said Tuesday she is ready to hit the ground running.
Bolton will oversee the 55,000 square foot venue home to several large conferences and work to attract organizations and associations to host conferences in Las Cruces.
"We want annual pieces of business and we want rotational pieces of business that will come back time and time again," Bolton said.
Bolton, who has experience in the industry at five other convention centers throughout the country, said the Las Cruces venue already features a great menu and customer service.
She said her goal is to find out what pieces if any are need and work to address those issues.
"It's more about creating a relationship with the clients and having conversations of what's missing and what's important to them," Bolton said.
The Las Cruces Convention and Visitors Bureau said they have seen an increase in visitors since the convention center opened in 2010.
Executive Director Phillip San Filippo said with a combined effort they can show out-of-towners what Las Cruces is all about.
"They want to know what's going on and what's happening," San Filippo said. "What kind of things should I be doing and seeing."
Bolton describes that similar to what residents of the community do when they have relatives from other places come to visit.
She said the best way to find out is to look at what residents are proud of in their community… and sell those to conventions considering Las Cruces.
"Those are the things we're going to take and package together and go and tell the story to organizers," she said.
