Since March 2013, El Paso’s firefighters have been competing against each other to see which fire station can lower their energy consumption the most.
The six-month challenge presented by the City’s Sustainability Program compared each fire station’s monthly energy use to their usage last year and the station that reduced the most energy overall was announced the winner. Fire Station No. 29 reduced their energy use by 21% when compared to last year. Fire Station No. 3 came in second place with a reduction of 16%. Overall, 82% of fire stations reduced their energy use.
