El Paso, TX (US Army) — The 2013 “Let’s SAAC Hunger” food drive opens Saturday. The week-long event provides Miner fans an amazing chance to be involved in the fight against hunger while also cheering on the Orange and Blue.
Fans who bring three canned goods can get in for free for the UTEP women’s basketball team’s game against Kansas State at 2 p.m. MST Saturday. There will also be the opportunity to do so for the Miners' tilt vs. Northern Arizona at 7:05 p.m. MST Nov. 22, in addition to the UTEP volleyball team’s match vs. East Carolina at 12 p.m. MST on “Senior Night” on Sunday.
We are delighted with the opportunity to be partnering with the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank for this year’s annual “Let’s SAAC Hunger” food drive. The UTEP Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) is enlisting the help of the El Paso community to contribute to this cause. Each C-USA university works within their respective communities to conduct a campus-wide canned food drive for one week during the fall semester. UTEP has selected the week of November 16 – 23 to “SAAC Hunger.”
Last year UTEP placed fourth out of 12 universities:
1. Tulsa: 12,240 lbs.
2. Memphis: 10,002 lbs.
3. SMU: 9,406.08 lbs.
4. UTEP: 7,307.08 lbs.
5. USM: 7,271 lbs.
6. Houston: 4,674 lbs.
