A South Texas teen is dead after a fight with another student at school.
School officials say, Tuesday at Canyon High School in New Braunfels, a teen was attacked as he walked into a hallway at the school.
They say they have video showing another student waiting for the teen in a hallway.
The victim was airlifted to the hospital after he was found unconscious and bleeding, but died Wednesday afternoon from injuries. The names of the teens involved have not been released.
Police say the suspect was taken to a juvenile detention center and is charged with aggravated assault.
The Comal Independent School District superintendent Andrew Kim, released a statement regarding the incident at the school:
The Comal ISD family is shocked and saddened by the senseless incident earlier this week at Canyon High School and the subsequent passing of one of the students involved. Our thoughts and prayers go out to the family and we respect their privacy during this very difficult time. We also recognize the teachers and staff at CHS who went above and beyond to help those involved. They did everything they could and we appreciate all of their efforts.
Campus and district counselors have been and will continue to be present at CHS to assist students and staff throughout the week. Our teachers and staff work daily with our students on personal and societal issues. We will review all of our safety protocols and take this opportunity to remind our students that there are multiple resources available to them when they have concerns and need help and remind them about consequences of their actions.
Our family is grieving today and we all need time for prayers and reflections. Funeral arrangements are pending for the young man. A student-led candlelight vigil will be held tonight at CHS from 7 to 7:15 pm in the courtyard. We ask your assistance in giving the students the privacy they deserve during the vigil. A moment of silence will be observed before Canyon High's bi-district playoff game against San Antonio Reagan tomorrow night.
