El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso Police detectives have arrested with 54-year-old Ervin Smiley after they say he attacked another man with a box cutter after a basketball game at Riverside High School Saturday afternoon.
EPPD responded to the parking lot of Riverside High School at approximately 2:20 p.m. Saturday afternoon after two men were ejected from a basketball game that was taking place on campus. The victim, a 53-year-old man, alleges that he had been punched by Smiley while playing basketball inside the school.
As the victim was leaving the campus, he says he saw Smiley walk over to his car and remove a box cutter. The victim then ran away from Smiley, and Smiley continued to chase the victim around his parked vehicle until witnesses on scene told Smiley to leave the area.
Smiley then left the scene and proceeded to the Central command police station to report the incident to authorities. Based upon information obtained in the investigation, officers placed Smiley under arrest and booked him into the El Paso Detention Facility on a charge of Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon. Smiley's bond was set at $20,000. The victim sustained minor injuries in the incident which did not require medication attention.
