EL PASO (KTSM) — An El Paso soldier was back home with his family Saturday, after the surprise of a lifetime.
In front of family and friends, 24-year-old John Gomez surprised his wife Stephanie at Logan’s Saturday night. He's been in the Army for five years and served in Afghanistan the last year.
Stephanie didn't expect her husband back so soon.
"I kind of figured because there was little things, little hints here and there but I loved it. I was really expecting him to be home Monday," said Stephanie.
"It’s been a long trip all the way up to getting out of the Army, coming home and spending time with family now. I get to see them. I'm just happy to be home in El Paso, Texas," said John.
While in Afghanistan, the army awarded john the Purple Heart medal for helping his unit escape from a burning tower after they were attacked.
