El Paso, TX — Butterfield Trail Golf Club will be the site of the second annual Price’s Give ‘Em Five UTEP Collegiate Golf Invitational on Friday and Saturday (Oct. 25-26).
Joining UTEP in the 15-team field will be Air Force, Boise State, Colorado, Grand Canyon, Idaho, Kansas, Nebraska, NM State, Northern Colorado, San Jose State, Seattle, UC Riverside, Utah and Western New Mexico.
A total of 36 holes will be played on Friday with 18 to follow on Saturday. Teams will start to tee off at 8 a.m. each day.
The champion of the first edition of the tournament (2012) was Idaho, and the individual champion was Idaho’s Gordon Webb who shot an eight-under-par 208.
UTEP finished second at two of its first three tournaments to open the 2013-14 season. The Miners are led by freshman Frederik Dreier, who has picked up a pair of top-five showings already this year. He tied for second place at the Gene Miranda Falcon Invite in Colorado Springs and took fourth at the Utah Invitational in Park City. He leads the team with a 72.1 scoring average.
The tournament will be played at the par-72, 7,307-yard Butterfield Trail Golf Course. Designed by Tom Fazio and located just minutes from the El Paso Airport, Butterfield Trail was rated the third-best municipal course in the nation by Golfweek in 2010.
Teams participating in the Price's Give ‘Em Five Invitational will conduct a golf clinic for Wounded Warriors on Thursday, Oct. 24 from 4:30-6 pm at the Butterfield Trail Golf Club Driving Range.
