El Paso, TEXAS (KTSM) — It was the battle of the bands at the Socorro Activities Center Saturday. Twenty four marching bands throughout El Paso and West Texas particpated in Socorro Independent School Districts 21st annual marching band contest. Ten bands will advance to the finals and the top three bands will be awarded.
NewsChannel Nine talked to a couple students competing today about what it takes to be in a marching band.
"Today we did pretty good and like we took our best there. We did a lot of practice to get that far. You put your heart in it. You get obsessed with it. You have pressure. So it is very hard," said Myrna Baylon, a competing band member.
Michael Mancill explained how much preparation goes into competing.
"Just a whole bunch of days of practice for our competition days to get them straight once," said Mancill.
The finals competition will begin at 6 pm.The event ends at 9pm.
