El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso police say one man was critically injured after he crashed his car into a police patrol car.
The accident happened at 11:30 p.m. Friday, near Gateway East and Lomaland in East El Paso.
The officer was conducting a traffic stop when he noticed a Mustang headed toward him and not slowing down. The officer managed to get out of the way just as the driver of the Mustang slammed into the back of the patrol unit.
The impact caused the patrol car to hit the Jetta. After the wreck, the officer went to check on the other driver of the Mustang and found that he was unconscious.
Mike Baranyay with the El Paso Police Department says, "At this point, what exactly cause his injuries, whether is was striking the windshield, striking the steering column is still under investigation."
Police say the driver of the Mustang was not wearing a seatbelt.
The officer and driver of the Jetta were not injured.
