El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Friends and fans of a woman who died while in police custody earlier this week are coming together for a fundraiser in her honor on Friday, October 18th.
Fernando Gomez, 36, who lived her life as Mercedes DeMarco, died while in police custody Sunday morning after police were called to a domestic disturbance call at 1301 N. Mesa, and police claim she became unresponsive in the rear of the police cruiser.
Friends will be holding a fundraiser for DeMarco's family to pay for funeral expenses. The fundraiser will be held at The Station nightclub, located at 420 N. Campbell beginning at 10:00 p.m. Friday night. Everyone 18 and up is welcome, friends will not be charging a cover at the door, but donations and tips will go towards her funeral service. Multiple performers are expected to perform throughout the night.
As of yet, there is no date set for DeMarco's funeral.
