El Paso, TX (KTSM) — El Paso Water Utilities Crews worked through the night Monday to repair a water main break and sinkhole in West El Paso.
According to EPWU spokesperson Christina Montoya, the water main break happened about 7:30 p.m. Monday on Stanton and Festival.
Montoya said water pressure built up in the large pipe, causing the pavement to break. She added that this type of break is not unusual for a large pipe.
The water that was released caused the ground to open up, sending water rushing through nearby streets.
Service was restored by 4 a.m..
EPWU crews used heavy machinery throughout the night to dig up the street and replace the broken pipe. Truckloads of dirt were also hauled in to eventually cover the sinkhole.
