El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The Canutillo School Board met behind closed doors Monday to decide the fate of a teacher accused of having porn on his computer. Physical education coach Marc Abeyta has been with the district for 10 years, but Monday board members decided to fire him. He was placed on leave in late September after school officials say they found the pornography on his school computer at Canutillo Middle School.
Board members met in closed session to decide whether or not to fire Abeyta and just moments ago did decide to terminate him as an employee. School district officials say they reported the incident to the El Paso County Sheriff's office, which is now investigating.
“We now feel there is cause for dismissal, so we're moving to suspend him without pay. And this is giving him enough time to file an appeal. He does have rights. He will have the right to appeal the decision of the board,” said Gustavo Reveles, the Public Information Officer for CISD.
Monday night was also the first meeting since El Paso County Sheriff's Deputies arrested Canutillo ISD board president Armando Rodriguez Thursday on alleged DWI charges. Rodriguez did not make a statement regarding his alleged DWI arrest.
