El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Texas' top elementary and secondary teachers were honored Friday in a special ceremony and luncheon at the Bob Bullock Texas State History Museum in Austin.
This year, El Dorado journalism teacher Carlos Briano was honored as one of three finalists in the 2014 Texas Secondary Education Teacher of the Year category.
Six outstanding Texas educators were selected as finalists for Teacher of the Year in the Elementary and Secondary categories. Other finalists in Briano's category were Christian DeBerry, a special education teacher at William P. Hobby Middle School, Northside ISD; and Monica Washington, an English teacher at Texas High School, Texarkana ISD.
Last year, Irene Salom, a special education teacher at Sambrano Elementary School in San Elizario ISD was honored as 2013 Texas Elementary Teacher of the Year.
