LAS CRUCES, N.M. (KTSM) — Las Cruces Police say that they have arrested the man suspected of robbing a woman at gunpoint two weeks ago near University Avenue.
Las Cruces police say that Vincent C. Montano, 39, of Mesilla Park, was arrested Friday, Sept. 27, and charged with one count of armed robbery.
LCPD allege that on the evening of Thursday, Sept. 19, Montano approached a woman walking to her car on Chaparral Street near University Avenue and demanded she hand over her cell phone. The woman hesitated until the suspect threatened her with a handgun.
Montano also fled the scene with the woman's purse, which contained her identification and bank cards, along with other items. Within a few hours of the robbery, the victim learned that her bank cards had been used at various locations throughout Las Cruces.
Detectives were able to contact those businesses and obtained information that led them to identify Monanto as the suspect.
Montano was arrested Friday morning and is being held at the Dona Ana County Detention Center with a cash only bond of $25,000. Additional charges are pending. It is unknown at this time if Monano is responsible for any other thefts in the region.
