El Paso, TX (KTSM) — The Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AZA) today announced that the AZA’s Professional Development Committee selected Steve Marshall, Director of the El Paso Zoo, to receive the Tim O’ Sullivan Award for his efforts in AZA professional development programs.
The award recognizes significant long-term individual achievement and service to AZA members through the AZA Professional Development Program.
“Steve is an extremely deserving recipient of this prestigious award, and the selection committee is pleased to recognize him for his long-time support as an inspirational instructor and past Professional Development Committee member,” said Nette Pletcher, AZA’s Director of Conservation Education.
The AZA Professional Development program officially began as a pilot program in 1975 as two courses for zoo and aquarium managers.
It now consists of at least 18 different courses including a Master’s program. All the courses are taught by zoo and aquarium professionals.
Steve began teaching in 1990 and for the past 23 years has consistently received high ratings on student evaluations.
