A Las Cruces father and son suspected of stealing medications and supplies from a hospital were both arrested Wednesday morning.
Joseph Gaytan Sr., 50, and his 25-year-old son also named Joseph, were both charged with one felony count of larceny.
Shortly before 1 a.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 18, Las Cruces Police were called to Mountain View Regional Medical Center where hospital staff had reason to believe that both Gaytans took supplies from an exam room.
Detectives learned the younger Gaytan was being treated in an exam room and his father had accompanied him. When the two left the exam room, hospital staff said they realized medications and surgical supplies were also missing.
Las Cruces police found the two men in the hospital lobby. Police said they were concealing medications and supplies. Police said Joseph Gaytan Sr. took $571.46 worth of medications and supplies while his son took $843.35 worth.
Both men were booked into the Dona Ana County Detention Center with bonds set at $5,000 each.
