EL PASO, TX — The Chase Tower building in downtown El Paso re-opened Friday morning, after being evacuated but it was a delayed opening.
The building was closed Thursday after people in the area reported hearing what sounded like an explosion. Turns out, the small explosion was caused by an El Paso Electric Companys' main transformer feeding in to the building.
Approximately 500 people inside the building were evacuated after smoke was seen coming from the basement. EPE officials say the problem was fixed and the building was expected to reopened at 9 am Friday morning.
