LAS CRUCES, N.M. — Las Cruces residents as well as area law enforcement participated in the Patriot Day Ceremony at Albert Johnson Park Wednesday afternoon.
In what was a beautiful ceremony on the 12th anniversary of the September 11th attacks, those in attendance honored the lives lost that day.
"Whether it be here in Las Cruces, New Mexico or New York City, police and fire departments set aside the simplistic things that go on on a daily basis and united," said Las Cruces Police Lieutenant Justin Dunivan.
Under a giant American flag, the fire department honored their fallen comrades with the traditional ringing of the bell.
Firefighters and the police department helped light candles to honor the lives lost on that tragic day.
People could be seen hugging and even wiping away tears during the ceremony.
