El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Football fans are gearing up for the big game on Saturday when the Miner football team will take on the University of New Mexico Lobos at the Sun Bowl in their first game of the season.
But before all the action on the field, UTEP invited fans to celebrate at a free pep rally on campus, where thousands of fans and community members flocked in high spirits.
There was entertainment provided by the UTEP Marching Band, the Golddiggers dance team, UTEP Cheerleaders, and Paydirt Pete.
Other Minerpalooza activities included live entertainment on two stages, inflatable obstacle courses, a kids zone, and food vendors sponsored by campus student organizations.
New UTEP football head coach Sean Kugler helped kick off the season.
It's a new era for the Miners as Coach Kugler takes the reins from former coach, Mike Price, and fans at the rally on Friday night were excited to see what Kugler will bring to the table.
"I'm really excited for Kugler to come to the football team. I want to see what kind of experience and his know-how about the football team and the NFL and everything can bring to our college," said Deepika Singh.
"This is going to be like so great. That experience with these players and like how big everybody is, I took a picture with them, I had to get like up on two chairs to get on top of these guys, these guys are just unstoppable," said Deshea Patrick.
