LAS CRUCES, N.M. — College football in Las Cruces officially kicks off with the New Mexico State Aggies first home game Saturday.
Fans began setting up RV's early Friday afternoon in anticipation for the home opener against the Minnesota Golden Gohpers.
"The Texas game gave us a lot of hope so we're hoping the team is going to be there," said Scott Archer of his expectations for Saturday's game.
After playing tough against the Longhorns the first half, the Aggies lost 56 to 7.
Coach Doug Martin said the team needs to close out games and get the win.
"We're no longer into moral victories around here so it's not ok the way that game ended up," Martin said.
Archer does expect the first game at home against the Golden Gophers to be a tough one.
"We watched their semi pull in and it was impressive," Archer said. "So I expect the team to be about the same."
With an independent schedule this season, fans feel it's too early to tell how the season will play out.
"I think there's going to be a lot of good games and there's going to be a lot of power teams," Archer said. "I just want good games."
Game time is 6 p.m. and gates open at 4 p.m.
As of the end of the day Friday, a bit more than 7,000 tickets had been sold.
