A former Las Cruces police detective arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a teen last month may have harmed another girl.
Michael Garcia, 37, was arrested on the eight new charges Wednesday.
The victim was believed to be 10 or 11 when the sexual contact began. It reportedly ended when the girl was in high school. Officials said the Garcia knew the girl from outside the department, but aren’t releasing how.
Garcia was immediately placed on administrative leave last month after a 17-year-old said he sexually assaulted her while on duty.
Garcia resigned from his position after serving 15 years in the police department.
