Washington, D.C. — Thousands of government jobs may soon be up for grabs, despite the toll that sequestration is taking on the workforce. New figures from the Bureau of Labor show the number of federal government employees eligible to retire by 2016 will reach nearly 30 percent.
Some corners of government are feeling the impact more than others. By 2016, 42 percent of the Department of Housing and Urban Development will be eligible to retire. At the Small Business Administration it's 44 percent.
