Back-to-school often means back to germs for millions of school kids. On average, elementary school children get eight to 12 colds or cases of the flu each school year, that's according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
For older kids, it's about half that number.There are some simple ways to keep your kids healthy. Experts say make sure they get plenty of sleep.
Not enough rest lowers the immune system's ability to fight off infection.
Also, kids should be getting at least 40 minutes of exercise daily and, of course, make sure they wash their hands often with soap and water.
It is the best way to keep germs from entering the body.
