Monday, April 5: The New Mexico State baseball team jumped into the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper (CBN) Top-30 NCAA Division I baseball poll, Monday, April 5, after winning 11-straight games.
NM State, 22-10 on the year, is comes in ranked at No. 20 in the poll after taking 2-of-3 from UC-Santa Barbara and sweeping Wofford as well as Houston Baptist. The Aggies also took a game from Texas Tech during the win streak.
"National ranking is always a goal to start the season and it is satisfying to have reached that goal," head coach Rocky Ward said. "I think that the No. 20 ranking is the highest in school history and the team has played great over the past several weeks and the ranking is well deserved."
The Aggies were in the CBN NCAA Division I baseball poll for three weeks in 2009 reaching No. 23 in the poll. After winning 11-consecutive games, the voters at CBN felt the Aggies deserved to be ranked No. 20. The Aggies fell to UC-Santa Barbara 10-9 back on March 20 and haven't lost since. NM State went on to take the remaining to games from the Gouchos in Santa Barbara, Calif., then defeated Wofford in a four-game sweep, which was followed by a 5-0 road record last week with wins over Texas Tech and Houston Baptist.
