El Paso and Socorro ISD Teachers represent at the Texas Teacher of the Year competition
El Paso, TX (KTSM) — With the desire to make a difference, Amanda Bowser and Carlos A. Briano decided that teaching was the best way to lead and pay it forward.
Monday, they received the region's highest teaching honor for their ability to inspire their students at a recognition banquet on Saturday, August 10 from 8:30-10 p.m. at the El Paso Convention and Performing Arts Center.
Bowser, a kindergarten through fifth-grade literacy coach at Colin Powell Elementary School in the El Paso Independent School District and Briano, a journalism teacher at El Dorado High School in the Socorro Independent School District were named 2014 ESC Region 19 Elementary and Secondary Teachers of the Year.
They will advance to compete for the Texas Teacher of the Year title. In addition to the ESC Region 19 top two educators, 19 District Teachers of the Year were also honored. Growing up a struggling student, Bowser realized she wanted to become the nurturing teacher she never had.
