The El Paso Police Department is investigating a serious early morning crash involving one of their own.
The crash happened just after 4 a.m. Sunday at the intersection of North Loop and Mockingbird in the lower valley.
El Paso police said the officer was driving his cruiser east bound on North Loop on his way to assist another officer. That's when they said the officer hit another driver as she was merging onto North Loop from Mockingbird. A passenger in her back seat was ejected from the car leaving him with serious head injuries. The driver, another passenger and the officer were all taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries.
Police said the officer did have his emergency lights on at the time of the crash. He's a 12 year veteran of the department.
Police have not released the names of anyone involved.
