Washington, D.C. (KTSM) — Civilian workers at Fort Bliss and other military installations won't have to bear as many furlough days as first thought. Defense Secretary Chuck Hagel announced Tuesday that the total number of furlough days is being cut from 11 to 6.
The unpaid days were ordered under mandatory spending cuts. The Pentagon must trim $37 billion from its budget. Hagel says the savings are largely a result of Congress' decision to give the Pentagon more flexibility in moving money around between accounts.
