El Paso, TX (KTSM) — Besides being the world's largest classic film festival, the Sixth Annual Plaza Classic Film Festival was opened by Oscar-winning actress, Rita Moreno.
On Thursday night, there wasn't an empty chair in the historic Plaza Theatre for the festival's opening movie, "West Side Story."
Oscar-winning actress, Rita Moreno, who played in the movie, spoke with the crowd about her career and the making of the film earlier tonight.
The Annual Plaza Classic Film Festival draws in thousands each year.
"How often do you get to see these movies that haven't been in the theatre for such a long time and you to see them in such a great location, it's really a once in a lifetime experience," said Rebecca Guerrerro.
El Pasoans say the 11-day event is one not to miss.
"We come every year. Every year, we try to watch at least one or two films, some of them independent, some of the classic ones," said Vanessa Brady.
"It's quite the experience to be able to come into this beautiful theatre that's so old and that's been a part of El Paso history for a long time and you get to see these movies that you've heard about from your parents," said Savannah Pine.
And for some families, the old films bring back memories of fun-times with loved ones.
"Something that we shared with my dad and we saw them on TV but to have the opportunity to actually see it as it was intended to be seen on screen, is going to be really fantastic," said Rebecca Ramos.
"Some of them are free so it's such a fun thing to do when you're low on cash and it's such a great environment and we just love it," said Guerrerro.
The festival will feature more than 80 films including "Meet Me in St. Louis" and "Dirty Harry."
Rita Moreno will also attend the showing of the movie "Four Seasons" on August 3rd.
