"Digital Trainer" profilee garners hundreds of positive support from the community
El Paso, Texas (KTSM) — At first, one teen battling obesity didn't have support from his friends. Now, the El Paso community is backing him up.
NewsChannel 9 introduced Roger Vasquez Monday night.
The 19 year old has to take several medications for blood pressure because of his weight, and is now trying to lose the pounds through good old-fashioned diet and exercise.
His friends didn't support him at first, he said.
They would tell him "Oh you're losing your identity or you're not being considerate of us," said Vasquez.
That's why Vasquez, and his personal trainer Hazael Dominguez , turned to social media to find motivation to keep going.
He is posting photos of all his meals, pictures of his dropping weight on the scale, and photos of himself.
Once his story aired Monday, the NewsChannel 9 Facebook page blew up.
"You're headed in the right direction. Never, ever, give up," wrote Luis Bustamante.
"That's awesome! Good for you for wanting to get in better health," said Ashley Robbinette Whinery.
Other viewers said Roger served as an inspiration for them.
"I'm right there with you and understand the battle. I'm going to be watching and working with you. Can't wait until we both succeed," wrote Susan Tipton Brandon.
Vasquez now reports, that after his story aired, his friends called and apologized for not supporting him initially.
