LAS CRUCES, N.M. — The City of Las Cruces and the Downtown Las Cruces Partnership received an award from the state on their efforts in reopening Main Street.
New Mexico Economic Development Secretary Jon Barela and Gov. Susana Martinez presented city leaders with a plaque at a ceremony Monday morning.
The governor said a vibrant downtown attracts businesses and boosts the local economy.
Barela praised the city for revamping Main Street while preserving the history of the area.
"This is something here we recognize and value, the humble beginnings of Las Cruces and we've kept that included as our downtown progresses," said Las Cruces Mayor Ken Miyagishima.
Miyaghisima said the city will continue their revitalization efforts downtown and will invest nearly $20 million in the next two years.
