Los Angeles (KTSM) — UTEP may lose their prized Freshman basketball player before he ever steps on campus. According to a report in the LA Times Saturday, Isaac Hamilton has requested a release from his National Letter of Intent from UTEP. In the report, Tim Floyd tells the Times that UTEP has denied the request and Hamilton is appealing to the National Letter of Intent Steering Committee. According to Floyd, Hamilton told him he wanted to stay closer to home because of an ill grandmother.
In the article Floyd says, "Isaac made his decision for all the right reasons. If this appeal is allowed, we might as well not have letters of intent."
According to the LA Times, Hamilton wants to enroll at USC. But sources told NewsChannel 9 late Saturday that his request was not necessarily to attend USC, just the Los Angeles area.
The announcement comes a week after fellow freshman Andre Spight was denied by the NCAA Clearing House to attend UTEP.
NewsChannel 9 will have more on this story as it develops.
