EL PASO (KTSM) — A new school in northwest El Paso will have a household name, Silvestre and Carolina school is named in honor of former congressman Silvestre Reyes and his wife, a groundbreaking ceremony took place today.
The school is the Canutillo independent school district's 10th campus, and will house children from pre k to 8th grade; several Canutillo officials and the former congressman attended the ceremony.
"We’re very honored and humbled that Canutillo Independent School District would name a school after us, and this is a great community we both grew up here, I graduated from Canutillo and for us is the symbol of the love for the community and the community reciprocates its love for us so we're overjoyed" Silvestre Reyes said.
The school will be built with funds from the 2006 and 2011 bond programs, construction will last 18 months, classes are expected to begin in the spring of 2015.
