El Paso - Police have released the names of two officers, and a suspect, who were involved in a shooting on Gateway West and Yarborough yesterday afternoon.
Police say Officer Jorge Gonzales, who was off duty at the time, shot 20-year-old Andres Elias Cortez in the neck after a traffic accident.
Investigators say Cortez rear-ended Gonzalez's SUV around 3:30 p.m.
Gonzalez and another off duty officer, Michelle Gonzalez, got out of the SUV and that's when police say Cortez tried to flee from the scene in his car.
Cortez allegedly stuck the female officer, pinning her under his car.
The male officer fired when police say it looked like Cortez was going to hit the female officer again.
Officer Michelle Gonzalez is being treated for non-life threatening injuries.
Officer Jorge Gonzalez is on administrative duty while police conduct an investigation.
Police say the officers are not related.
Cortez remains hospitalized in critical condition.
