Santa Fe, NM (KTSM) — Former New Mexico Gov. David Cargo, died on Friday, July 5th at the age of 84.
Governor Martinez has issued an executive order for flags to be flown at half-staff from sunrise, July 10th to sundown July 12th in honor and mourning of Governor Cargo.
He was born on January 23, 1929, in Dowagiac, Michigan and earned his Bachelor’s degree, Master of Public Administration and a Juris Doctorate from the University of Michigan.
At age 37 he became the youngest governor in the state’s history, serving two terms from 1967 to 1971
Governor Cargo, served the State of New Mexico from 1967-1971.
He is preceded in death by his former wife, Ida Jo Anaya and his brother John Cargo and is survived by his five children, Veronica, David, Patrick, Elena and Eamon; five grandchildren, Kevin, Jordan Partrick, Reese, Maddie, and Kieran; and his brother Gerald and his wife, Barbara.
